Privacy Policy

Who I am

LandedMoney.ca (“the site,” “I,” “me,” “we,” “us”) is an independent personal finance website focused on helping newcomers and immigrant families in Canada navigate the financial system.

What information I collect

Information you give me directly

When you sign up for the newsletter, fill out the contact form, or otherwise reach out, you may give me:

  • Your email address
  • Your name (optional)
  • The content of any messages you send

Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, certain information is collected automatically through standard web technologies:

  • Analytics data — pages visited, time on site, approximate location (country/city level), device type, browser type, referring site. I use this to understand what content is useful, not to identify you personally.
  • Cookies — small text files stored on your device. I use cookies for site functionality, analytics, and (in some cases) to track affiliate link clicks.
  • IP address — collected by hosting and analytics services. Used for spam prevention and aggregate analytics.

How I use your information

I use the limited information I collect to:

  • Send you the newsletter (only if you signed up)
  • Respond to questions and messages you send me
  • Understand which articles are useful so I can write better ones
  • Prevent spam and abuse
  • Comply with legal obligations if required

What I do NOT do

I want to be very clear about this:

  • I do not sell your data to anyone. Ever.
  • I do not share your email address with third parties.
  • I do not use your personal information for targeted advertising beyond standard analytics.
  • I do not store financial information (account numbers, SINs, etc.) on this site. Please never send that information to me.

Third-party services I use

To run this site, I use a small number of trusted third-party services. Each has its own privacy policy:

  • Hostinger — hosting provider (handles server logs)
  • Google Analytics or similar — to understand site traffic
  • Email newsletter service (such as ConvertKit, Mailerlite, or similar) — to manage and send the newsletter
  • Affiliate networks — when you click an affiliate link, the partner network may set a cookie to track the referral so I get credit for the recommendation

Cookies and tracking

This site uses cookies to:

  • Remember basic preferences (language selection, etc.)
  • Measure how the site is used (analytics)
  • Track affiliate referrals when you click a recommendation link

You can disable cookies in your browser settings at any time. The site will still work, but some features may not function correctly.

Affiliate links and disclosure

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up for a product, the company may share a small commission with me at no extra cost to you. They may also set a cookie on your browser to track that referral.

Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law (PIPEDA) and other applicable regulations, you have the right to:

  • Know what information I have about you
  • Request a copy of your data
  • Ask me to correct or delete your information
  • Unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time (every email has an unsubscribe link)
  • Withdraw consent for any processing

To exercise any of these rights, email hello@landedmoney.ca. I’ll respond within 30 days.

Data retention

I keep your information only as long as needed:

  • Newsletter subscribers — until you unsubscribe
  • Contact form messages — typically deleted after our conversation ends
  • Analytics data — automatically anonymized or deleted after 14 months

Children’s privacy

This site is not directed at anyone under 16. I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided me with information, please contact hello@landedmoney.ca and I will delete it.

International readers

This site is operated from Canada. If you are visiting from outside Canada, please be aware that information collected may be processed in Canada, where data protection laws may differ from those in your country.

Changes to this policy

If I update this privacy policy, I’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top. Significant changes will be announced in the newsletter and on the site homepage for at least 30 days.
